Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) is a cutting edge not-for-profit dedicated to environmental justice through innovative, economically sustainable projects informed by community needs. Founded in 2001 SSBx addresses land-use, energy, transportation, water & waste policy, design & manufacturing, and education to advance the environmental and economic rebirth of the South Bronx, and inspires solutions in areas like it across the nation and around the world.
Position Overview:
Sustainable South Bronx seeks a Director for Smart Roofs, its green roof installation and maintenance project. Smart Roofs has been created to provide a revenue stream for the organization. The Director will be entrepreneurial, imaginative, energetic, self-motivated, and highly organized with a commitment to the mission of SSBx. Applicants should be interested and/or conversant in the concepts of gardening, urban farming, agriculture, and/or construction.
Responsibilities:
The Director will lead all aspects of the business, including day to day operations and management. Responsibilities include sales, marketing, business development, the development of a business plan, site management, project management, contracts, and the ongoing maintenance of existing green roof sites. Additionally, the position will require coordination with SSBx staff members. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a creative, ambitious, entrepreneurial person with a commitment to Environmental Justice.
Some of the Director's duties include:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the oversight of the Smart Roofs' business including all aspects of design, installation and maintenance of the green roofs.
The negotiation and execution of contracts with clients, vendors and partner organizations,
Financial oversight of the business, including the creation and maintenance of budgets.
Cultivation and oversight of Smart Roofs' contractors; and the scheduling and booking of installations and maintenance for our clients.
Marketing Smart Roofs, including the creation and distribution of sales and collateral materials, and responsibility for the design and maintenance of Smart Roofs' website.
The development of a client base for Smart Roofs products, and the ongoing satisfaction of Smart Roofs' clients.
Qualifications:
Attributes of the successful candidate will include:
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people of all backgrounds
The ability to manage several projects simultaneously, determine priorities and maintain attention to detail
The ability to manage, supervise and lead a staff.
A collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to work individually and as part of a team.
Compensation: Salary: $45,000 with tremendous upside opportunity as the business develops. Position receives full benefits including health, dental, vacation, sick leave and paid holidays and the opportunity to participate in SSBx's 401K plan.
