Ventanas San Mateo, Costa Rica

When my wife and I first saw the property Ventanas San Mateo was located on…in the foothills of the Aquacate mountains , just outside the town of San Mateo …we viewed it as an investment (because it was partially a teak plantation) and because of its beautiful ocean views AND because of its proximity to dozens of world class beaches.

We purchased the property…and then strange things began to happen…friends (primarily native Costa Ricans…Ticos) began visiting the property. And they told their friends about the “Ventanas”. Visitors began camping on the property or staying in the older home on the land. In their descriptions and conversations about the property the Ticos used words like “magical” and “spiritual” and “precious” (the ultimate compliment).

We began taking a closer look...

And what we saw was like a blind man who could see… we saw stupendous ocean views from nearly everywhere on the property… we saw gorgeous mountains… and we saw rivers streaming to the ocean.

Then we saw the true beauty that was Costa Rica…the jungle…the literally hundreds ( maybe thousands!) of fruit and hardwood trees and flowers of unbelievable varieties. Trees hundreds of years old forming the base of an area known as a “dry rainforest”…and capturing the breezes off of the ocean. And we saw the monkeys , both whitefaced and howler, the toucans, the parrots and literally hundreds of different species of birds. All in an area almost completely untouched. And yet still convenient.

So…by way of introduction…
Ventanas San Mateo …was born. And it was our mission to communicate the magic and uniqueness of this property to others. And we wanted to offer to others the opportunity not only to experience this magic but to do it in such a way that would truly show why Ventanas is one of a kind. We think we have done that…and we hope that you will agree.
